and what does folding paper have to do with either of them? WHO KNOWS<br />

I am afraid a large percentage of my readership will not get these references.

TEXT OF COMIC:

If "Shinigami" means "death god" in Japanese, then "gami" must be a variant of "kami," meaning "god."
If that's the case, then "origami" means "Ori god."
THE ORI ARE THE TRUE GODS!
Only you could make a pun connecting Bleach and Stargate.

Perhaps you already know this and simply ignored it in service of a pun, but with only 5 vowel sounds and 9[*] consonant sounds, Japanese has many, many homonyms. So "kami" does mean "god", but it also means "paper", "up", "head hair", "the Imperial capital", and "seasoning". And that's not counting meanings it only has in compounds with other words.

[*] The exact count of consonants depends on how you count. For example, do you count voiced 'g' and unvoiced 'k' as one consonant or two? For this discussion, I count it as one because "-gami" in your examples is the same as "kami".

Ooh, thanks for the information! Now I want to learn Japanese even more. It must be *great* for making puns...
