4. Sexual content
The first few chapters of the narrator's storyline include a scene where she defends herself and another character from sexual harassment.
There are scenes in a high-tech planet colony where public nudity and public sex are the norm for everyone, including people augmented to appear animalistic, robotic, or otherwise non-human. One such character becomes intimate with one of the protagonists.
There are mentions of past atrocities, including humans being farmed as breeding stock (through artificial, non-sexual means).
There is swearing and sexual discussion throughout the book, and one sex scene between the two lead characters. There are no pregnancies, but lots of dialogue about reproduction and the narrator's ambivalence toward it, especially as she donates her reproductive cells to contribute to the settlement's population.
There is a reference to an unhappy marriage in the backstory of an older character, but no explicit reference to violence in that marriage.
Another older character (a villain) is described as "creepy" in his interactions with younger women. There is no onstage evidence of him behaving in a sexually coercive manner, although it is suggested that this behavior may exist.
