8. Other harm
The narrator successfully defends herself against three assailants in a physical fight. Later there is an off-stage death of one of these assailants while doing community service as a penalty.
There are numerous off-stage accidental deaths of minor characters with whom the reader never becomes familiar.
One major character from the narrator's storyline disappears and is not found in the course of this book.
There are mentions of past atrocities, including mass murder of children and families, and humans being farmed as breeding stock. There are also discussions of life under a eugenicist regime.
There are several fictional stories shared among the group of friends in the diary entries (some of whom are writers, and some of whom enjoy reading banned books). These stories contain several mentions of death and violence, but are only summarized by the characters discussing them.
