The Experience

Section Break

The installation will provide an immersive experience.

Visitors can imagine themselves as interstellar travelers, exploring this station after discovering it through a mysterious portal.

The dioramas in the Apartment Building will be commissioned from various artists.

They'll be like wildly creative sci-fi dollhouses, in a variety of different styles.

Section Break

Close-up of a few shelves of the apartments. They are open like dollhouses, with a walkway and guardrail alongside them, and a cylindrical elevator hanging on a cord at the end of the shelf. Most are strange and alien, such as an aquarium-like room containing a four-limbed aquatic creature, a room with mouse-like creatures playing a board game while their cat sits in the foreground, and a room with a two-headed vendor behind a counter overlooking the walkway. One cube is divided into two floors and populated with extra-tiny insect-like people. One has curtains partially hiding a tentacled creature that sits at a table inside. In one, a large bug-like resident relaxes in a hammock.

Section Break

Each one will be labeled with a description of the home and the creatures that live in it.

More information about the starbase (including stories by various writers) can be in books on the tables, and for sale in the gift shop.

While guests rest and talk, they can also explore an imaginative world of multicultural, multi-planetary life.

Section Break

A large room, carpeted, with potted trees, chairs and tables covered in fuzzy draping. Part of the miniature apartment building is visible in the background, but the focus is on two small chairs and two small tables. Each is draped in a fuzzy covering, and each tabletop has a mountain-like planter and a small stack of books. On the nearer table, a tiny spiral staircase can be seen leading up from the planter; this will connect to a cable car leading to the roof of the apartments.

Exterior

Section Break

On the outside of the building will be signs that read:

Starlingship

Book and Gift Shoppe and Interstellar Space Station

Section Break

An oval-shaped sketch of a possible logo bearing the aforementioned words. In the center is a picture of a spaceship with a spherical center, augmented with wings, feet and a pointed nose, causing it to resemble a bird.

Section Break

The entryway will be decorated with an ornate door frame, with a sign hanging nearby.

This could be the outer door of a building, the door of a rented room within a building-- or even the entryway to a canopy, set up at an outdoor festival.

Section Break

Rough sketch of a square festival canopy with a fancy doorway and a person standing outside it.

Section Break

On the doorframe, a sign reads:

What is this doorway?

A magic portal? A space warp?

Wardrobe, wormhole,

or something else?

We don't know. We just found it.

All we know is that it leads

into a space station

in the far reaches of the galaxy.

Welcome, travelers.
