Gift Shop

Section Break

There can be a section with arts and crafts, books and trinkets, for sale on shelves.

This will be the main source of income for the exhibit.

Art sold in the shop will be bought from independent artists, and sold at a small markup from what the artist would ordinarily charge in person.

Artists will be encouraged to submit art that reflects the themes of the starbase.

The shelves can be draped with green velvet like the tables and chairs. A sign can indicate that it is also a nature park, which the interdimensional visitors are permitted to use as a shop.

I can sit or stand nearby, ringing up purchases.

Close-up view of the gift shop shelf. It is a two-level shelving unit, with the shelf at eye level covered in small boxes, books, pottery, and jewelry on stands. From the upper shelf hang some shirts on hangers. It can still be seen that the top of the upper shelf is covered in grassy fabric and planters.

Section Break

I have considerable experience with displays for selling crafts.

You can scroll down to see some photos of how I've set up sales tables at conventions, craft fairs and Renaissance Fairs...

Photo of my table at the MN Renaissance Festival, outdoors under a canopy. Long table draped in green and white, with a tablecloth bearing the name THE HEATHERSMITH. 2 large rectangular stands with jewelry hanging all over them. Between them, handmade ornaments hang from a string between two dowels topped with leaf balls. 2 stands made of small turquoise plates hold handmade tiaras and crowns. Other smaller displays cover the table. A colorful pair of fairy wings hangs in the background.

Photo of a variation on the same setup, with battery-powered lights under square purple fabric cubes illuminating the displays. In this version, a purple umbrella with a green ruffle around the edge is set up with small ornaments hanging underneath it.

Close-up of the stack of plates holding up crowns. In this version the plates are clear, not turquoise. Each is supported by four gold-wire columns, making the plates into shelves on which the crowns sit. The crowns visible in this image are made of steel wire and decorated with seashells and pearls.

Close-up of a box of jeweled dagger-like letter openers, made from butter knives and steel wire and gemstones.

Close-up of earrings and ear cuffs hanging on the display.

close-up of a box of jeweled headbands. In the background is a platform covered with small decorative trees and flowers, made from wire and gemstone chip beads, some with roots wrapped around stone bases, and some arranged in miniature glass bottles.

Photo of a small, open, 2-tiered jewelry box, with a sign on the inside of the lid saying Business Cards and Free Mini Books. The upper tier contains business cards for The Heathersmith. The lower tier is full of tiny paper books, each less than 2 inches square.
