What will it look like?

The art installation could fit into almost any room.

It just needs space for a gift-shop shelf, a few small tables and chairs... and, of course, the shelves of miniature diorama sculpture, representing apartment buildings in a space station.

Section Break

Drawing of a U-shaped, 5-story miniature apartment building made of shelves. Roof is covered with grass-like carpet and mountain-like planters with small houseplants. Two boxes over sections of the drawing connect to enlarged close-ups of those sections, one seen from outside and one from inside.

This apartment building is the residential center of a diverse starbase. Creatures from many different planets live and work here together.

The main thing they have in common is that they're all much smaller than humans.

Their apartments are tiny ten-inch cubes, making up five-story buildings that reach about the height of a standing person.

A further enlarged close-up of a section of the miniature apartment building seen from outside. Each shelf has walkways with guardrails. Apartments have small signs above them. This side is mostly closed off, showing outer doors and windows. These look strange, including doors resembling mouths or flowers, a door with an expanding mechanical iris, a caged window like a boat porthole, a wall covered in scales, and a stack of three round tubes in place of a door. Some cubes have multiple stories and/or multiple doors, one has only a window with a flower box, one seems to have a glass wall, and one is mostly open with a counter and an empty room behind it.

A further enlarged close-up of a section of the miniature apartment building seen from inside. Each shelf has walkways with guardrail. Apartments have small signs above them. On this side, most apartments are open like dollhouses. Most are strange and alien, such as an aquarium-like room containing a large fish, another aquarium-like room with a four-limbed aquatic creature, a room with mouse-like creatures playing a board game while their cat sits in the foreground, and a room with a two-headed vendor behind a counter overlooking the walkway. One has a rounded garage-door-like opening, and is full to overflowing with nothing but potted plants. One has a grassy floor with a large three-eyed snake on it. Some have a partial wall, and some have a curtain. Some are 2-story apartments with extra-tiny creatures in them, while some are connected to each other with doors or stairs to create homes larger than 1 cube.

The number and size of these will depend on what I can afford to set up.

In the small portable version, it would be just one shelf.

In a permanent installation, there would be a square or semi-square of apartment buildings that surround a miniature courtyard.

One side of the apartments will be closed, the other will be open like a dollhouse.

Both sides will be shielded behind protective clear vinyl.
